SWAFFHAM

After five years of living in Norfolk, I still have a need to stop and enjoy the countryside I view while I am driving.
Two weeks ago as I was driving towards Downham Market, I suddenly felt a need to stop and dive into the beautiful, bright yellow rapeseed field.
I stopped my car and let myself go. I stopped at the edge of the field and I was shocked about how grounded I felt.
I noticed that I was standing on the field in my bare feet staring at the field. I looked around slowly and felt so, so free.

A Field

A field of dreams?  Perhaps. I love the expanse of space, the quiet reflective silence, the sense of possibility, the feeling of being totally with nature in its full embrace.  At those times I feel as though I had found my place, my home. I imagine a little cottage, brick and flint, (not listed though too much hassle) a wood burner, Aga (of course), the smell of home baked bread wafting from the kitchen on the original stone floor. Floorboards shine and creak, the fire blazes. The cottage sits amongst the fields. Field and cottage, like two familiar lovers, a perfect union, content, comfortable.

Then the twitches of doubt creep in. I crave noise, action, people, and movement amongst those fields. The anonymity. I miss a good old concrete building. Oh, I’m full of field contradiction. Perhaps, I just want both?  A field with a nice artisan coffee shop nearby. Oh and good cinema, bookshop, deli, gastro pub…
